Our hearts were broken by a loss we did not
expect and therefore I took a short
blogging break from my weekly posts.
{Gracie and our new adopted sweet girl}
Shortly after Easter we found out that our sweet
American bull dog Lola had cancer that
had come out of no where and it
was causing her such tremendous pain.
Lola blessed our lives
from the day my son brought her
home from the breeder
at 10 weeks old.
Each month she grew...
and grew
and we loved her more...
She was loyal...
She loved us as her family
and we cherished everyday with her...
This was the last photo I took of her
with my son Christopher on Easter.
We were all so very devastated since she was
only four years old.
If you are an animal lover you know
they are like your children
they are a huge part of your family.
We said our tearful goodbyes while
Christopher and I stayed with her
till the end that day.
The ride home was such an emptiness
in my heart sitting between he
and Gracie while they were sobbing.
As a mother I held them tight
while my own tears were endless.
We had lost our girl...
Each day that passed it hurt so much
to not see her sweet face.
Last week I was sitting outside thinking
about my high school friend Denny
who is always posting about rescuing
a dog through adoption.
Denny is a firefighter and a wonderful family man.
I thought about how passionate he was
through all of his face book posts.
Then I decided that pet adoption
would be our perfect fit.
adopted from OC Animal Care
As I walked around the volunteer that
helped us named Debbie told us
this sweet girl had been over looked at three years of age.
I asked to spend time with her
and when those soulful eyes looked into mine
I knew she was it.
It tugged my heart just thinking how my mom
adopted me at age twelve and I too had
been over looked by families who
wanted a younger child.
I think that is where our souls connected
and I had to bring her home.
I called Christopher and he drove to meet me there
and as you can see she stole our hearts.
She was a family surrender after
they had lost their home.
I was so happy that we could offer
her a home where she would be spoiled
with endless love.
We decided to keep the name
that she was given by her previous family.
This is our new sweet girl
" Guinevere "
She took us by storm in one short week
and we are head over heels in love with her.
Each day with Guinevere our broken hearts are healing.
A heart felt thank you to my friend
Denny who continues to support the shelters
who find loving homes for these beautiful
animals through adoption.
Lola girl we will carry the love
in our hearts for you forever...

im so sorry to hear about your dog lola, ive grown so attached to my little french bulldog i can only imagine how you must have felt.
Losing a family 'pet' is just like losing a family member and the loss just as great. We lost our faithful companion Reggie 2 years ago and although I wanted to adopt/buy another, my hubby still cannot think of it. His heart was broken. He's warming up to another pet (we've had a pet all our 34 years together but Reg was with us for so long and loved so much, he doesn't think he will be able to go through a loss again.)
As I type I have tears streaming down my cheeks for I still miss our Reggie. I am happy you and yours were able to adopt and are healing. We did this when one of our cats died unexpectedly and adopting another was such a comfort.
O no !! what a sad sad sad news of Lola.....i feel your pain darling !!!...you shall miss her a lot !!!...and i am so glad you found Guinevere !!..enjoy time with her...warm hugs...love from me...Ria...xxx..
I am so sorry for the loss of sweet Lola. I know she will live in your hearts forever. I hope that Guinevere brings many many years of happiness to your family. She looks like a real sweetie.
You are so right, pets are like children, they are family. They provide, live comfort and happiness. I am saddened to heard of the loss of your beautiful Lola. And yet happy that you now have anew loved one in Guinevere.
Have a wonderful weekend, Elizabeth

I am so sorry for your loss but rejoice with you about your new baby.
Have a joy filled (truly joy filled) day today, Kate.
So right about now I am on the verge of the "ugly cry". I am so sorry to hear these things about your sweet Lola. I do understand that kind of love for a pet. My little westie is one of the most important people in my little world. I am so happy to hear about your new addition to the family. God bless you all as you remember Lola. I believe a part of her will always be in your hearts. Hugs to you Kate.

Oh Kate, I am so sorry... I've experienced saying goodbye to a dear doggy friend, and it is heartbreaking, and like you, my heart began to heal with the love of another dear sweet dog.
Welcome home to Guinevere!

So sorry for your loss Kate...I know your memories and the addition of Guinevere will help you all!
I'm so sorry to hear about Lola, Kate. Pets bring so much love into our lives and are such a big part of our families. I've always thought it is a testament to how much we loved them, that we are willing to adopt and put our feelings out there again! Guinevere is beautiful...I'm glad she has her forever family and is bringing joy to your family!
So very saddened about your loss of sweet Lola Kate... I of all people understand the heartache you all are going through... Jack and I had said no more pets when we lost our sweet Sheltie Lady at a fairly young age... then, Tessy came along, a gift from God, to help heal our broken hearts... she truly was sent by an angel... she needed us and we needed her... more than we ever knew... and I know sweet Guinevere is a gift from God to you too... sent by angels... I am so happy she now has her forever home... you are all blessed by her coming to you... welcome to your new beginning of life sweet little Guinevere... we love you... xoxo Julie Marie and Tessy
Awwww, I am so sorry for your loss. I know how much that hurts. But your new baby is so beautiful, and just think how grateful she is to all of you. Shelter dogs are the best. :-)
XOXO

I know how devastating that loss is, I lost my cat sweetie pie to cancer 4 years ago and there will never be another cat i love as much as him! Pets are truly more than just a pet, they are truly family. I am new to your blog...love it and thanks for sharing this story!!!

I just read your post today. I'm so sorry for your aching hearts. However, I'm excited that you have opened your home to a rescue. We lost our precious Macy in October and in March adopted a rescue and believe it or not named her Lola. She has totally stolen our hearts as well. :-)
I had no idea that there was a real dining room that was used as Hogwart's dining hall. It sounds like you had another wonderful day in England.
English Bulldog Puppies
I help rescue a lot of pits from OC, so happy you found Guinevere and healing love to you for your loss of you beautiful Lola.
