" A Heap of Beauty "

A reason to live fully comes at a cost sometimes.

Then there is that moment when you stop

and see the beauty in having less

and an abundance of much!

I was so happy as summer approached and sad

that due to my high health care costs Gracie would miss

out on attending her favorite summer care program.

Two days before school let out she shared with me

how excited she was just to spend the summer with us.

We had decided that she would go with us on our curbside

rescue trips. I must say my girl is a " pro. " After about a half

hour she was hollering from the back seat of the truck

" Stop mom I see a wood cabinet "

Mr. Dior and I realized at nine she had a knack

for this passion we love called " junking. "

God really placed upon my thoughts

what would fill Gracie's heart this summer,

our time together...

Our summer began...

Among the vintage radio flyer scooter

and piles of rescued old wood

was a coffee table top with no glass in the center.

I told the Mr. to toss it into the back of the truck

along with the other goodness.

The top was brown wood with an

emptiness in the center, but whoever left it outside

turned it over so now the wood was sun bleached.

{swoon}

I took a piece of old plywood from the pile

and had him cut it to fit the inside.

I sanded off the old brown stain

from the outside of the tabletop

to balance out the color.

Then a few coats of chalkboard paint

and we were finished.

I love how it looks like

an old wood frame giving it a vintage vibe.

And the beautiful old bench

was another rescue. It was covered with

dirt laying in the heap of trash

just waiting to be loved!

{did you see her pale blue chippy legs}

We found a truck load of beauty

in a days search!

Leaving my heart filled

 and thanking the good Lord

for so much more than we expected.

Oh, you all did great with all your finds. I hope you have a great summer full of lasting memories as your looking and restoring all your finds. By the way the other day I looked up the meaning of the word "Bliss" in the dictionary, it said, "a heavenly joy", I was so surprised, and it made me realize few things here on this earth are full of bliss and so when I do experience those blissful moments they are that much more special because they have brought "heavenly joy". Sending a hug my friend.

What a creative and talented couple (family actually!) you are. I just found you via Burlap Luxe and oh happy day for me to find yet another very inspirational and gifted blog to visit now and again. Thank you for sharing such beautiful work and for saving lost treasures - they found the perfect home, I think. :-)

Big hugs

Ms. Kate, what GREAT finds you and your wonderful family found. I know what ya mean about the costs of things. Money is ALWAYS tight for us during the summer since we live in a seasonal area so I have decided that I would teach Kaley how to "cook" this summer and how to "bake" next summer. She's already learned how to make eggs. It's her "go-to" meal now, lol. I think the next thing will have to be something like pasta so we can eat something different : )
{HUGS} to you my dear friend

Oh I love how your mind works! Creating treasures from scraps and things others toss out is so fun AND resourceful. Gracie is learning so much by just being with you and being a part of the process!!!

I'd love for you and Gracie to stop by and see the fairy gardens.... I have a tutorial on a path I made from beads, stones, sea shells and glitter : )

Blessings Dear Kate!

Dearest Kate-
You will garner so much this Summer with that extra time spent With Gracie, as will she. Just throw in a few fun surprises along the way now and then to keep it extra fun, such as a surprise picnic while junking, a stop for an ice cream cone, or a quick dip to cool off in the ocean. I envy the fun you'll have this Summer with your girl. Enjoy her age now, as they quickly grow up and become more independent. By building our strong relationship with her now, that comes back around to benefit you big time when they mature. Seeing this so much with our soon to be 19 year old daughter. She just came home for a night for dinner out with us and a Mother/Daughter pedicure and lunch during a day off from her Summer job. So fun!
Love your finds, and so wish I lived near you.

The good Lord does work in mysterious ways. Sounds like Gracie had just as much fun as she would have had she attended a summer program. What a special bond she will develop with you two. Love all the treasures you found. Blue chippy legs are the icing on the cake! Even a darling scooter for Gracie! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann

Kate, I always love your awesome "junkin" expeditions - and glad you have a new "assistant" now.

I truly am sorry about health issues - but you are young and so beautiful, hang in there and keep prayin!

I absolutely LOVE that nifty old scooter - haven't seen one of those in forever years.

I'm a little late coming to comment on this Kate, but I so agree. Time and again when I've been sad over some perceived lack, God has filled us in ways we could never even think up on our own. My kids won't get to do anything that costs money this summer, but I'm going to try hard to make the everyday a little more special and festive.
As always, I adore your rescue projects! Just gorgeous. Blessings to you!

I think that it is wonderful that your daughter has a knack for your favorite pastime. It is also great that she is able to spend more time at home with you guys this summer and that she didn’t get upset about missing out on summer camp.
